About Basil Jones:

Through his personal journey exploring many facets of yoga, Basil has been awakened by the teachings of Patanjali, Swami Satchidananda, Osho, Sharon Gannon, David Life, BKS Iyengar, David Swenson, Seane Corn, and Dharma Mittra.  He draws from his experience in these teachings to create a unique approach to yoga that combines traditional and modern practices through spiritual discourses and inspiration, pranayama, asana, and meditation set to a soundtrack that awakens the groove from house to melodic to trance music.  Now touring the country with the Urban Aer Yoga Remix Tour, Basil seeks to fuse the messages of all his gurus into an accessible practice designed to awaken the spirit, energize the body, and restore the balance in all yogis.  As Co-Founder and Director of Aer Yoga and Living in Westchester County, New York, his clients include celebrity TV talk show hosts, Golden Globe and Emmy Award winning actors, international fitness gurus, carpenters, and everyday people.  Basil has appeared on the Martha Stewart Show and is featured in her publications.

Basil began his yogic path when he worked as a chiropractic assistant for 5 years in NYC.  After seeing hundreds of patients per month, he began to feel that wellness stretched beyond the body.  Basil found that energetic patterns unintentionally held by people such as “clinging to tension”, “shallow breathing”, and “dis-ease” could be replaced with time tested techniques from the practices of yoga and meditation that allowed the individual to rebuild patterns of wellness. Basil went on to receive his yoga certification through Integral Yoga in NYC and David Swenson in Minnesota and is a registered teacher with the Yoga Alliance.

In 2005 Basil met entrepreneur, Laura Cashel, and the two started the Aer Yoga and Living Studio in the historic Yellow Monkey Village of Cross River, NY.  The classes sold out almost immediately, and it was necessary to add a second yoga studio and a boutique to provide eco-friendly yoga mats and environmentally responsible yoga clothing for practitioners crowding into the yoga classes. Today, Aer Yoga and Living has over 35 vinyasa/ashtanga-based yoga classes per week and has grown to include the holistic therapy Aer Day Spa, and organic Aer Café and Juice Bar selling products that support sustainable agriculture, bio-dynamic farming, and locally grown fresh foods.
