The Crows of Sacred Space Yoga-Animal Medicine for Real life

Have you ever noticed the abundance of crows that live in the parking lot at Sacred Space?

If you see crows as dirty birds that are a nuisance and a pain in the ass and ugly to boot, I'd like to offer a Shamanistic/Tribal perspective of this amazing animal. (in fact, I highly suggest the book, Animal Speak, by Ted Andrews, as a starting point for anyone interested in learning about the sacredness of animals that bless our earth)...

Crow is a very intelligent bird. Its feathers are black and shiny. Crow is a member of the songbird family. Crow is omnivorous and can eat just about anything. Symbolic of their ability to "digest anything", we can learn from them the same skill of the Great Hindu Deity Ganesha-with his big belly, he too can digest the good and the bad....in doing so, they remind us of the Tantric potential to use anything in life to remove obstacles that keep us bound in the world of duality. All is food for the soul!

Crows work together to warn off predators. If a hawk or owl shows up in crows territory, crows will join forces to drive it away. Crow makes great sentinels. Their nest are build high up in trees so that it can watch what is going on around them. If Crow appears in your life, seek a higher perspective.

Crow is master of change and movement; mystery and illusion. Crow is fearless and is guardian of things hidden and sacred. Crow is the interpreter of the unknown . There is a trickster quality about crow. Crow knows when to reveal his presence and when to stay hidden. When crow enters your life it is time to interpret signs, symbols, omens and dreams. Make peace with your shadow self. Crow is attracted to bright shiny objects. Remember all that glitters is not gold. Do not take what is not yours but always be prepared to take advantage of hidden opportunities. Practice shape shifting. Take a class in Shamanism or Clairvoyance. Trust your intuition. Time for introspection.

The next time you come to class, take a detour and purposefully take the path past the nasty garbage dumpsters! (the side alley)...stop, roll down your window and watch these amazing creatures, they have something to teach you!

Stay tuned for more insights about how Crow can teach us about the 5th chakra...xokim

This is great, Kim, thank you for reminding us all of this.

Yesterday, two big, beautiful crows came to my bird feeders on my porch. They're incredible birds, and their colors are so rich.

I heard on NPR about a month ago that crows can distinguish between individual human faces and will warn their buddies about humans who treat birds badly. How many of us could recognize one crow over another?

I do love that crows often hang out in the parking lot here. It actually makes me feel really connected to those shamanistic paths to know that they're on the watch for the inner and outer transformations effected by this place.

I wonder if any will show up over your day tomorrow!

Hi Guys,

Kim, I find it ironic that you wrote this the day before the sweat lodge ceremony. I remember seeing crow on the windshield of my car prior to heading out to the retreat. Serendipity?

I little known fact, blue-jays are cousins to the crow family, as are ravens and vultures, my personal fav. Did you know that vultures in captivity have been known to show a "dog-like devotion" to their keepers?
