Testimonials about our studio, our teachers and our services.

"After practicing yoga elsewhere for 3 1/2 years, I started taking classes at Sacred Space, and was blown away by the quality of the teaching there. In the 1 1/2 years since then, my practice has developed immeasurably, and, more importantly, I feel terrific! The teachers at SS are extremely knowledgeable and experienced, and somehow are able to be both supportive and challenging at the same time. I particularly appreciate the attention paid to maintaining healthy alignment, coordinating movement with breath, and to encouraging each student to find their own unique experience of a given asana. At SS, I feel that the asanas are there to serve me and my body, not the other way around. I would enthusiastically recommend SS to anyone interested in yoga!"  ~Gepe, Silver Spring, MD

"I travel all over the country teaching yoga workshops (25 cities in 2010) and Sacred Space Rockville is one of the Top 3 most beautiful studios in the country. Just the sheer aesthetic of it is so gorgeous...which makes for a wonderful yoga experience. The studio is led by Kim Groark and Scott Donroe who are amazing teachers and most importantly, they truly deeply care and put so much TLC into Sacred Space. It makes all the difference in the world. When you walk into a yoga studio, and the owners arent' present and plugged into their business, you feel it. This is a top notch, first class, freakin AWESOME yoga experience. Make sure you GO to Sacred Space!!!" ~David Romanelli, Santa Monica, CA

"Sacred Space Yoga is a true sanctuary filled with some truly wonderful teachers who embrace life and genuinely welcome everyone to class. This is a business with integrity that cares about the service they provide, from every detail of the beautifully decorated space down to every consciously chosen aspect of the schedule. The instructors are highly skilled with their technique and teaching skills, but also know how to address the mind and emotions, to cultivate balance and awareness. They welcome you on days when everything goes wrong. They welcome you on days when everything goes right. I highly recommend this studio for all levels of yogis."~Kimmie D., Odenton, MD

Since I began studying at Sacred Space, my yoga practice has evolved in so many positive ways, it is hard to put them all into words. Classes at Sacred Space are fun, spiritual, challenging, exploratory, and self-serving in the best sense of the word - the instructors all emphasize listening to the truest, deepest level of yourself via staying present with the breath. The result for me has been that for the first time in 25 years, I am not in pain and I am LOVING my yoga practice.  ~C.Bour, Rockville, MD

"The best yoga studio in Metropolitan Washington. Each teacher brings something special to practice. A fabulous environment that makes practicing yoga even more enjoyable."  ~PBresler, Rockville, MD

"Sacred Space Yoga is an amazing yoga experience. I started going there on a regular basis 2 years ago after trying several different studios in Rockville and Bethesda, and this studio is by far the best there is. The teachers there are incredibly creative, dedicated and compassionate individuals. The classes are incredibly challenging both physically and mentally, whether you are a beginner or a seasoned yogi you will benefit from the instruction here. As a bonus, there are awesome workshop and retreat opportunities offered year-round. If you live in the area and are looking for a studio, definitely give it a try...you won't regret it."~S.P. Rockville, MD

"This is the most amazing studio I've even practiced at! It has a warm and welcoming energy that encourages students of all levels to find their own practice. They offer a week of unlimited yoga for only $25 to first time students and flexible class bundles, from drop in classes to 6 month passes... no "membership" required. If you're looking for fun and inspiring studio to practice yoga, check out Sacred space Yoga!"  ~Yogarocks, Rockville, MD

"I searched for a new place of practice when I found out my previous yoga place, in Bethesda no longer was there. As I walked into Sacred Space it instantly gives you a relaxing sense all over. Water trickling, foliage everywhere. They front desk staff was very friendly and welcomed me into the studio. The class was great!! It is challenging and really sets the tone for the class. I have been to 2 classes already and this place will now become my place of practice!!I would definitely recommend this place!"
~Amanda D., Rockville, MD

"Great space and workout. A great, nuturing environment."~ Ambrose C., Rockville, MD

"Sacred Space is awesome, led by Kim and Scott. I've only taken the odd class now and then, and having gone only to Level 1, I found the classes at Sacred Space challenging. The space is nice, the students are serious but mellow, and the flow is tough but a great workout, and for me a great sweat.  I like the music, too, a combo of stuff you'd normally find in yoga and some interesting alternative but appropriate pop/rock. Works well to keep the vibe young and current, and keeps up my energy.  Recommend the place highly."
~Paul W., Takoma Park, MD

"I have actually only been here one time but it was fantastic! I went to candlelight yoga on a Friday night after a very stressful week. This is one of the few places to offer candlelight yoga. The studio is very pretty and calming. The rooms have bamboo floors and are cozy. The decorations are really nicely done (buddha statues, bamboo, etc). They lined lots of candles on the shelves and turned the overhead lights low (the overhead light is really beautiful too). I really liked the instructor. She was just the right amount of confident, funny and supportive. She had a great vibe about her. She taught us along the way too so I have a better grasp of the postures now. Beats going to yoga at the gym where I think they overdo it. It was so relaxing but challenging at the same time. It made me feel so much better. This is a very loving space to be in." ~Angel W., Arlington, VA

"Ambiance is not like your ordinary studio.  Despite being in a strip center hidden behind a Merchant Tires off Randolph Road, the fountain and stone walls hid the cookie-cutter storefront and made the location a tranquil sanctuary for your Vinyasa yoga needs. As far as ambiance goes, I consider this studio the sexiest of them all.  With the sexy dark woods, gray stones, and dark green walls of the lobby, that and the yogic lounge music added more trendy lounge to what would normally be a tranquil airy studio.Overall a great yoga studio.   Instructors were friendly, knowledgeable and did a great job accommodating to the abilities of the students in the class.  I tried the $25 unlimited week pass, and when my week was up I got a 20% discount towards my 8-class pass (discount also applies towards an unlimited monthly pass)."   ~TuVan L., Rockville, MD

"Awesome yoga studio right in my backyard, what's there not to love about Scared Space Yoga? Sacred Yoga is situated in a random small stripe mall, perhaps the worst location one can possibly start a business in. It's completely hidden from any pedestrian or drive-by traffic. However, they did a great job transforming the inside into a yoga oasis. The 2 classes I've tried, led by Diane and Scott, were amazing. Granted it was probably the hardest I've ever worked in yoga, it felt great afterwards. I enjoyed how small the classes are and that the instructors do come around to check on your postures."~Jeannie L., Fairfax, VA

"My body had a productive week at Sacred Space. After signing up for the one week $25 trial pass, I was really impressed with all Sacred Space Yoga had to offer.  My favorite class by far was Kim's (who is also the owner)--one of the best yoga classes I've ever been to ever actually. She has such a sweet personality, exudes great energy, offers plenty of adjustments, and you just get a great vibe from classes. These are the yoga classes that you benefit the most from. Oh also, I really liked her music too, which the soundtrack list could also be found on the website. It keeps you flowing! They really put effort in creating the environment inside too. The studio has a pleasant, relaxing vibe. Definitely worthy of checking it out, you'll like it! This place is definitely great for someone who wants to improve their yoga practice." ~Jessica C., Washington DC

This yoga studio is AMAZING! I have tried many in the DC/MD area, and this one is my favorite by far. They offer vinyasa flow yoga, hatha, golf-flow, and are starting to incorporate partner/acro-yoga work. The teachers encourage you to listen to your body, pay attention to your breath, and focus on your alignment. Kim's class is full of energy- she loves to laugh. Scott is also a physical therapist and he gives the most wonderful massages during your savasana. The place is uber clean, the front desk staff is friendly, and there's no "yogi ego" here. They believe that yoga is for everyone. My classmates are really cool and supportive. Needless to say, I love it here" ~Cyana C., Silver Spring, MD

"Hello Kim, I just want to thank you and your team for such an excellent journey. I had always enjoyed and I always looked forward to going to your class. I know I will learn something new, whether it is a new pose and challenge me or it is a message to look deeper at my inner self. Going to your class was so refreshing. I miss you so much. You are terrific."
~Hati deJesus-Newton, Pennsylvania

"Ever have that feeling after watching or experiencing something so stunning, so beautiful that it is impossible to form words? The moment takes up your entire being and you know you have been a witness to what you have always to wanted to see, always wanted to feel...always wanted to be a part of. A moment that flows so simply, you find yourself floating along the current until the participating energies have no choice but to unfurl and become something greater than they are alone. The communal energy surges, each soul awakening to the potential of itself, others, the world and the universe. And then an opening... a sweet and sacred space for the soul to unfurl to the warmth, the light, to life: a soul swell. Where you can find your own line. Surf your own soul. And be content with the deep rooted knowledge that this place is exactly where your authentic self lives.
This is the feeling I walked with after the Sacred Space Yoga Retreat in July. And again, after last nights' Animal Medicine workshop with Kim, Greg and Scott. I find myself filled with Life. Power. Acceptance. Gratitude. Truth. Releasing more of what no longer serves my being and in its place, the energy to give. My soul to share. And love the way my heart has always known it could. A chorus of energies, harmonizing like old friends. Each in their own sacred space yet filled with awareness of their connection to each other and the Complete Vibration of One.
SSY  is a potent and vital source to anyone's well-being.  A conversation, a class, a workshop or a retreat within the realm of this studio is a sacred and lasting gift to every soul.   Namaste.~S.Edwards, Kensington, MD

"I enjoyed the free kundalini promotion they had here last week. As I walked in, leaving my shoes by the door, I could sense that this was a peaceful place. I wish I lived a little closer, but will be looking for a space like this locally."   ~Kim N., Vienna, VA

“We are founders of City Yoga Berlin. We have been studying with Kim whenever we stayed in Los Angeles during the last few years. Kim is an experienced teacher and coach with an extraordinary positive energy and with a very high degree of competence. To study with Kim has been highly rewarding and it greatly influenced our decision to be come yoga teachers ourselves. Kim brings an unusually high level of professionalism to the yoga world, She is a great communicator, but also a very good yoga therapist. Thanks to Kim, we learned how to overcome back and shoulder pain. She is creative when choosing the right elements of yoga at the right time and her classes are always a new experience. She is highly sought after and has built not only a large following, but one that is deeply loyal and dedicated.”  ~Veith & Claudia Turske, owners of City Yoga Berlin

“I just want to let you know how transformative your teaching and your presence have been to both me and my fiancé. You helped me grow from a once a week, occasional practice based mostly on a "how good of a workout can i get" mentality, to wanting to practice as often as possible for the physical and spiritual freedom and growth it brings!”  ~A., Canter, student

“I always loved your class and viewed it as something to aspire to. You should know that I now enjoy headstand, at the wall.  I credit you, because you were always the one who so enthusiastically endorsed inversions. I have made a lot of progress in my yoga practice so thank you so much for your part in making this happen for me!”   ~A. Kuroda, student

“I haven't taken the time to verbalize this before, but I certainly have felt it: You really touch my soul.  I need a good dose of spirituality and grounding with my yoga practice that goes far beyond 4 walls and a mat and you provide that. With love and gratitude.”  ~C. Actor, student

Kim is a gifted teacher, a gentle and creative soul, a fun rebel and a teachers teacher.
Kim teaches the best form, protecting against injury and offering her students more than a mere stretch class with New Age advice. She is one who brings a real professionalism as a yoga instructor to anywhere she teaches and offers a top-quality experience. “
~K. Mills PhD, student

Thank you Kim for being such a wonderful source of grace and love and compassion in my life. I can’t tell you how many things you say resonate with me and stay with me for days, sometimes weeks, after a class. I am drawn to your powerful life force and I feel my own magnified by my interactions with you and my fellow yogis in your classes.”
~A. Roberts, student

Thank you so much for being such an inspiration to my yoga practice. I have enjoyed every minute practicing with you and your beautiful spirit and joyful presence. Namaste.”
~M. Sharp,West Hollywood, CA

“I am a newcomer to the mysterious yoga universe. I always thought it was all about physical/emotional balance. With you sometimes, it becomes more about research and daring to take risks. Since I am a scientist, I am fascinated by this research and exploration aspect of our practice. “   ~A. Felici PhD,student

Your class is a killer for me, but I really, really enjoy it!”   ~M.Sommer, Bethesda, MD

“For the past few days I have been wrestling with a decision over whether to accept a new job or not…last night, I found that I could not even attempt a handstand, my heart and mind would not go there. I realized this morning that right now is not a time for me to take a big risk…thank you for providing the setting and the insight to realize the connections and to make a decision that I know is right in my heart.”  ~U. Hildebrandt, Washington D.C.

“I really enjoy Kim’s style of working through a pose while flowing. Her classes and workshops are always comprehensive and informative without too much talking and without losing the essence of flow. Kim is fantastic, an inspiration and a breath of fresh air in the Maryland yoga world.” ~S.Abrams, Rockville, MD

“I have to tell you how much I enjoyed the workshop this weekend-they were so gratifying in so many ways: I learned a lot and experienced a lot, in such a calm and stress-free way. You had obviously  prepared carefully for the workshops, but they sill felt so spontaneous and inspired. You have such a wealth of knowledge…”

“Thanks for the workshop - I loved it! I really enjoyed the intensity of doing 3 hours of yoga-movement-practice. And I particularly enjoyed the phase of paired practices at the end.  Since then, I've had openings in my hips and belly, and have been enjoying movement and feeling in my body much more.  I've taken to dancing in the am, and doing more free-form practices which feel incredible.  Just letting my body feel, and express  through movement.  I even spontaneously did a back bend the other morning - which totally surprised me as I have never been able to do one before!  It just flowed out.”   ~H. Jessup, healer/artist

“I am constantly inspired by your teaching, your enthusiasm and your love of yoga. I someday hope to inspire my own students and help them discover their own yoga journey, as you have done for me. I feel priviledged to be taught by you. A heartfelt thanks."
~S. Zwiers, yoga teacher

“Amazing workshop. Please do it again. You have a phenomenal teaching style”  ~H. Glick, Potomac, MD
