As we cultivate and commit to our practice on the mat, we discover that yoga is something we live, something we can experience in all aspects of our life. Below are some links to friends and organizations that we believe support the journey of healing and change.

Beyond the Mat - Sustainable Giving Benefits Everyone

April, 2008             March, 2008           February, 2008            January, 2008

Every Saturday, from 4:30-6pm, make a difference in the world: just by practicing your yoga!

Yoga makes us more conscious of ourselves, our actions, our surroundings, and our Global Community. Have you ever wondered how YOU can help to heal this world?
Take your practice to the next level, and be a part of yoga’s healing power! Join us for a Vinyasa Flow class for all/mixed levels, taught by a different instructor each week, and for causes that are close to our hearts. Both Sacred Space and the instructor are donating this class and their time in honor of seva, or service, and the proceeds from this class will benefit the organization designated for that month.

Start a Miracle, One Breath at a Time.

~ The suggested/requested donation for these  classes is $15.  But please, come and give what you can.  Share your energy towards this cause.
~ We regret that we cannot accept your class bundle or unlimited membership towards a donation.

~ Contact our studio manager with questions or concerns, or to nominate an organization in need of seva.

~ Sponsored organization for May, 2008: Race for the Cure - in honor of Mother's Day (May 11th) and the National Race in DC on June 7th - stay tuned for more details.

~ Sponsored organization for March, 2008: Anahata International

Anahata International was formed by DC area yoga teachers to share the healing, grounding, empowering potential of yoga with those most in need, and to channel this energy into effective programs world-wide.

Anahata International is dedicated to assisting with the self-healing of individuals and communities affected by conflict, by teaching effective strategies for trauma recovery through a wide spectrum of yoga and meditation techniques.

Thanks to all who donated old/used yoga mats!
Earlier this month, we collected 20 used yoga mats that were sent to Kigali, Rwanda with our friends from Angela and Radhika from Anahata International, to help victims of genocide discover the powerful and healing practice of yoga.  For updates on their progress and to see how your donation dollars are being put to work, check out their blog.

SHARE YOUR CAUSE!  SEND US YOUR REQUESTED ORGANIZATION & WE WILL ADD IT TO OUR EXPANDING LIST

~ Sponsored organization for February, 2008: Make-A-Wish Foundation of the Mid-Atlantic

Destination JoySM Beetle Boy PSA

The Beetle Boy Public Service Announcement re-enacts the actual wish of Michael, a 6-year-old boy who became a superhero for the day. The PSA also stars Make-A-Wish® volunteer, Stewart Snodgrass, who played the villain both in Michael’s real-life wish and this delightful PSA.

~ Sponsored organization for January, 2008: Cambodian Children's Fund

A big Thank You goes out to those who supported Beyond the Mat in January; we raised enough money for the Cambodian Children's Fund to feed one child three nutritious meals per day for an entire month, and cover the monthly education costs (including English, math, computer classes & cultural studies) for two kids.  JAI!  CCF will be back later this year, so don't forget these kids...

"This is Christina and Caitlyn from Lululemon Athletica in Tysons, finally sending the picture that we promised.  On February 18th the two of us managed to make our way to your beautiful studio and we have been singing praises about it ever since.

As new yogi's it was such an amazing experice for us to take a class at Sacred Space where the environment truly takes you away from the outside world and our teacher Cathy was INCREDIBLE!  Hands down our best class we've ever taken and we can not wait to make our way back to Rockville!  You all truly live up to your name and have created a sacred space to practice yoga!

Love, Christina & Caitlyn"

Send us your testimonial!  How has yoga changed your life, renewed your spirit, or enhanced your other athletic endeavors?
