Class Descriptions

All classes are maintained at a moderate, yet warm temperature of 75-80 degrees, which we believe is the optimal temperature for a flow-based practice. In every class, regardless of style or level, you will be challenged intelligently and with proper guidance. You will never be forced to do what is impossible for you. We ask that you please honor your body in whatever class you choose.

Understanding Our Class Levels:

Sacred Space offers yoga for all levels and stages of life. Below you will find descriptions of our class levels. If you need further help deciding the right class for you, please give us a call!

Beginner's Yoga (Level 1):

Classes will introduce you to your body, how it works and to experience the many benefits of yoga. The focus is on building a strong foundation of alignment and developing proper breathing technique. It’s pace is slower so that you can experience the postures thoroughly and understand modifications that are appropriate for your body.  Our beginner class teachers are dedicated to helping you master form, structure, and breath so that you may progress with confidence in your practice. Suitable for students who have never tried yoga, newer students and students with injuries.

Level 1 & 2:

These moderately paced classes will guide you through more challenging postures and sequencing, however, will continue to emphasize the fundamentals of yoga. Level 1-2 teachers offer fresh challenges for their students, while ensuring that beginner students are offered modifications. Suitable for beginner and intermediate students.

Mixed Level:

A moderately paced class for all levels of students.  This class will give you options and modifications for taking it down a level or ramping it up, depending on where you are at in your practice.  Suitable for all levels of students.

Level 2 & 3:

These classes will offer the opportunity for students to explore inversions, arm balances &  more challenging sequences.  Students will be encouraged to use their knowledge of postures and breathing to cultivate a more intuitive practice.  We recommend you have at least 6 months of consistent yoga practice before joining this class. Suitable for intermediate & advanced students.

Candlelight Vinyasa Flow

Set to candlelight and transformative music, this vinyasa flow class is the perfect way to unwind into the weekend. While this class builds heat, strength and flexibility, the darkness allows the mind to flow into a deep state of meditation. This is an opportunity to let go of your self-consciousness and dissolve into relaxation. For all levels of practitioners.

Afro-Brazilian Dance

Afro-Brazilian dance combines the rich history of the Yoruba religion as transplanted in Brazil along with the unique rhythms of Samba and Samba/Reggae as well as other Caribbean influenced movements. Each class begins with a warm up session feature progressive Afro-Brazilian flexibility movements and stretching exercises. Following the warm up students will be introduced to a variety of traditional and contemporary dance steps. Lively foot movements accompanied by elegant hip, shoulder, and arm gyrations are then added, creating a dance that includes the entire body in a fully traditional representation of Brazilian culture. For all levels of practitioners.

Belly Dance

A Belly dance class, taught in the Sunyatta technique, for all levels of yogis, dancers, shakers and movers! Learn the basic moves, explore the energetic power of the dance, and connect with its deeply healing magic. These dances connect us to our core power and some of our most fundamental and limitless creative expressions. Be prepared to dance, laugh and ignite the power of sacred dance in your body and your heart. All levels welcome. No Previous Experience Necessary.

How Often Should You Practice?

As often as you can! Every day of your life is worth being lived in a clear, joyful, and conscious way. At Sacred Space, we believe that when you devote a part of each day to yourself, not only do you personally reap the benefits, but so do your friends, co-workers, children, spouses, and anyone who comes into contact with you throughout your day. When we are stable, balanced, and stress-free, our lives flow more efficiently and we are better able to handle the changes and challenges that life tosses at us.

Unlike other exercise disciplines, such as running or weight-lifting, your body does not need a day of rest in between classes. In fact, the Surgeon General recommends 60 minutes of exercise every single day to maintain your health. If you want to IMPROVE your health, he recommends 90 minutes. Yoga is a thorough and well-balanced practice that offers both a cardiovascular workout and deep stretching, making it the perfect source of exercise.

We know that not everyone has the time or finances to make it to class every day. No worries-get to class as often as you can and soon you will discover that you want to make time and that in making this time, you will in fact gain time in your day.

The most important thing is to do what you can do and stay consistent!

Here are some guidelines of what you can expect from the frequency of your yoga practice:

1-2 classes weekly:
Reduced stress
Modest improvement in flexibility and balance
Modest improvement in breathing
Modest improvement in posture
Sleep better
Decreased anxiety, tension and depression

3-4 Classes weekly
All of the above plus:
Significant increase in strength, flexibility and balance
Increased energy

Improved overall sense of well-being.

5+ Classes weekly
All of the above plus:
Greater endurance and energy
Structural reintegration of your body
